Bonjour ! Welcome to my blog and first blog post about teaching world languages using immersion. My name is Megan Helgeson and I have been teaching French for more than 10 years. I will share my world language experiences and journey with immersion in another blog post, but here I want to discuss the title of my blog.
I named my blog “Immersion in Motion” for two reasons. First, I hope that my blog will help “set in motion” your own immersion classroom. Second, there is no denying the amount of movement, acting and kinesthetic learning that an immersion classroom entails. More on this later.
In this blog, I will write how to set the foundation for an immersion classroom, where not only you speak in the target language, but your students do as well, even in level 1. I will share strategies on how to interact with students when they do not speak in the TL. And I will share stories from my classroom to show you that you are not alone in the struggles you are facing to implement an immersion classroom.
